Dimitris Vassilakis is an internationally acclaimed Greek saxophonist, vocalist, composer and educator. He has recorded 5 award winning albums for historic jazz label Candid Records.

His album “Daedalus Project – Labyrinth“, voted as Jazz album of the year by BBC in 2002 has become the subject of study at several universities and has been presented at Yale and conferences of Musicology. His album “Parallel Lines“, a trio suite dedicated to Sonny Rollins was greatly acclaimed by critics.

His last album “Across The Universe” – his debut vocal album with a cosmopolitan line up -has given him 2 years of world touring and some of the best reviews ever.

He has performed at New York’s clubs Birdland, Zinc, Smalls, Kitano, Dizzy’s, Jazz Showcase Chicago and major festivals worldwide such as London Jazz Festival, Ronnie Scott’s, Smithsonian Festival DC, at the American History Museum and in South Africa Tour with Abdullah Ibrahim. He has also had the honor to perform before 2 Greek Presidents, 3 Prime Ministers and Bill Clinton, the 42nd President of the United States, during his official visit in 1999.

Dimitris Vassilakis has performed and recorded with Jeff “Tain” Watts, Dave Liebman, Abdullah Ibrahim, Marc Johnson, Jamie Cullum, Mina Agossi, Juliet Kelly, Deborah Davis, Adam Nussbaum, Milcho Leviev, Andy Sheppard, Theodossi Spassov, Ron Affif etc.

Other programs included performing at Delphic games, Herodou Atticou  and Lycabettus theatre for the Athens festival,  Dizzy’ s Club Jazz at The Lincoln Center with the aid of the Onassis Foundation and at artists’ residencies in New York and Chicago Colleges and Universities.
