Iwona Blazwick

Art critic

Iwona Blazwick has been Director of the Whitechapel Gallery, London, since 2001, leading its expansion in 2009.  From 1997 to 2001 Blazwick was at Tate Modern where she co-curated the inaugural collection displays and Turbine Hall Projects.  In the late 1980s and early 1990s she was Director of Exhibitions at London’s Institute of Contemporary Art; and thereafter worked as an independent curator in Europe and Japan.

Today, Iwona Blazwick is Chair of the Cultural Strategy Group at London’s City Hall while in 2007 she was awarded an OBE for services to art. She has served on many juries including the Turner Prize; the Kandinsky Prize; Venice Biennale Golden Lion award; the Vincent Prize and the Wolfgang Hahn Prize.
